DJ'S THOUGHTS ON:

THE JAMS BOARD/ JAMS POSSE

"The 'Unofficial Fan-Club'. I listen & respect all those who send messages to UBJams. We're all listening to the same music, watching the same performance, and skanking to the same riddims. The thing that does it for me is the fact that we're all living in different corners of the globe, yet we can all relate to one another. It's exciting to think that, although the UB's may be playing a gig somewhere you've never heard of, there will probably be someone who posts a live review. I think this shows the true value of UBJams."

UB40

"There has only ever been one song which I've absolutely loved the first time I've heard it..."I Got You Babe". I respect UB40 for their honesty, the way you can relate to them, the fact that they've always been true and proud of their roots. They appear extremely down to earth - this reflects in their live performances - there are no fancy unnecessary frills, what you see is what you get. UB40 are so under-rated by the music press, I felt genuine pride that I was seeing 'my' unassuming band play a huge gig (Milton Keynes National Bowl - 1994) - surely only supergroups such as 'The Rolling Stones', U2' or 'Michael Jackson'play gigs on this scale. Although there are a few songs which I tend not to play, UB40 are quite easily the nearest I've ever come to having a perfect band - long may UB40 reign."

BEING A UB40 FAN

"Before discovering the internet, I was the only genuine BIG UB40 fan. My circle of friends all knew me as the UB fan. This

made me feel good as I felt I was being independent and not following the crowd - I would always spread the word of UB through various jukeboxes etc. On discovering the internet, I've opened up a new world where I can discuss UB40 without fear of boring them as they knew exactly where I was coming from, the agreements/disagreements on favourite songs/albums etc. It's brilliant hearing people talk about album tracks instead of the usual "Red Red Wine" etc."

MUSIC

"Various Reggae/DUB artists including...Bob Marley, Beres Hammond, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Linton "Kwesi" Johnson, Jah Shaka, Macka B. At the moment, I'm listening to Fatboy Slim but other various artists include...The Specials, Madness, U2, Simply Red, Eric Clapton/Cream, The Doors, The Beautiful South, Blur, Stevie Wonder, Barry White, George Michael, Madonna, REM, The Mamas & The Papas....the list is endless."
